Celebrating Friendship and Creativity: Laura Luke X Embella Jewellery
My first collaboration was more than just a professional partnership. When my dear friend Sally, owner and designer of Embella Jewellery, came to me with a request for some exclusive artwork for her business’ gift cards, I was so excited to get to work!
Our friendship dates back to childhood when we connected over a shared love of dancing. I admired Sally’s presence and flare when she took the stage, she is a natural creative! Over the many years and challenges along the way, Sally has always been there with kind words of encouragement, reigniting my confidence and creativity. Her gutsy determination and admirable originality are refreshing, so it’s no surprise that she created her own Australian Jewellery empire!
So, I set to work collaborating with my favourite jewellery brand!
After a long catch-up, Sally and I chatted about her ideas for the artwork. In a nod to our shared appreciation of the ocean and its wonders, I designed two artworks to capture the essence of connection, joy and the tranquillity of the sea. Dolphins and Turtles, two of the ocean’s most beloved creatures, were chosen as the central motifs in my designs. Ningaloo: Laura Luke X Embella Jewellery
After the success of our first collaboration, Sally from Embella Jewellery was keen to work again on a project for one of her jewellery collections.
During April of 2023, Sally would be visiting Exmouth in Western Australia to witness the Solar Eclipse and experience one of those most special, bucket-list moments: swimming with Whale Sharks! In preparation for this awesome adventure, Sally created the most beautiful jewellery collection to celebrate the Ningaloo Reef, home to the Whale Shark from March to August each year. It was only natural then, that Sally would ask for a Whale Shark drawing as the artwork to compliment her jewellery collection.

This part of the world is very dear to me. After a family bereavement, a friend invited me to join her on a road trip from Perth to Ningaloo Reef.
Despite my grief, the sheer beauty of the views gently forced me to be still and present momentarily to appreciate the intensity and contrast of the harsh red earth against the picturesque turquoise ocean. It was something I had never experienced before.
I felt a spiritual connection with the place, immersed in nature, surfing and snorkelling, and talking to the people around us. It was healing in a way that made me believe everything would be okay in time. It was a great reminder that the world is beautiful and magical, and our loved ones are always with us.
